UPDATED: Joplin courthouse business cancelled after morning storm damage

JOPLIN, Mo. — UPDATED 9:57 a.m.: All operations in the courthouse have been cancelled today due to wind damage and power outages.

 - - - - - - - - - -

Jasper County officials are currently assessing damage to the courthouse at Sixth Street and Pearl Avenue in Joplin, where large chunks of the roof were tossed into the parking lot.

The building sustained roof damage from the storm that passed through early this morning, including water damage to the third floor, according to John Bartosh, presiding Jasper County Commissioner.

Scattered trees also are down throughout town.

Kracht, 32, of Laurel, Ind., entered open pleas of guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court to felony counts of theft from a public utility.
