A Community Health Fair, sponsored by the Economic Security Corp., will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Memorial Hall in Joplin.

The fair is being held to help educate and identify people who may be diabetic or having difficulty with weight management.

The fair will offer screenings for dental, vision and blood pressure. Participants will be referred to medical providers. An expert on diabetes will talk at 11 a.m.

St. John’s Regional Medical Center will provide blood-sugar testing and a fasting lipid panel for $5. The medical center also will offer Diabetes Aware and Step Endurance to check physical conditioning.

Other community-support agencies attending are Crosslines, ACHE Dental, Access Family Care, Joplin Family Y, American Red Cross, Community Clinic, Lafayette House, Head Start, Watered Gardens, and Brothers, Bezold and Associates.

If you want your blood drawn for the lipid panel, you must fast for eight to 10 hours before your blood is drawn. Consume only water.
