Carl Junction chamber honors educators, businesses, volunteers

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — More than 200 people were on hand to applaud community members and educators at the Carl Junction Area Chamber of Commerce banquet.

The banquet, held Thursday at Carl Junction High School, also served as a fundraiser for the chamber’s youth fund.

The chamber presented four education awards, including two Teacher of the Year awards. The Elementary Teacher of the Year was Teri Carter. Terry Higgins was named Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Amy Graskemper received the Pat Owens School Support Staff of the Year award. She is a secretary at Carl Junction High School. Ray Carter was named School Volunteer of the Year.

Ruby Dunn was recognized as Carl Junction Citizen of the Year. Ali Carlton and Carl Fowler also were nominated for the award.

Other award recipients were Carrol and Jayne Sill, Outstanding Senior Citizens; Marcus Donham, Chamber Member of the Year; Gambino’s Pizza, Business of the Year; Ozark Hearth and Home, Rising Business of the Year; and the Carl Junction Lions Club, Civic and Community Service award.

The Carl Junction Leo Club won the Junior Youth Organization award, and the Carl Junction FFA won Senior Youth Organization honors.

Fundraising for the youth fund via a silent auction raised more than $1,100 according to Gary Stubblefield, executive director of the chamber.
