The Missouri American Water’s Joplin water treatment plant on Tuesday celebrated its award for surpassing Environmental Protection Agency water treatment standards for 10 years.
It is one of around 100 plants to receive the Partnership for Safe Water’s Ten Year Directors Award. There are more than 150,000 water treatment plants in the nation.
“EPA put this challenge out there and we accepted,” said Frank Kartmann, president of Missouri American Water.
Local officials and members of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce were given a tour of the plant.
