JOPLIN, Mo. —
Local colleges and universities will hold commencement ceremonies next week for graduating students.
Winter commencement at Missouri Southern State University will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center on campus.
Students are asked to meet 30 minutes before the ceremony in Young Gymnasium.
A rehearsal is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday in the athletic center.
Rod Smith, a 1994 MSSU graduate who played with the Denver Broncos for 14 years, is scheduled as the keynote speaker.
Crowder College in Neosho also will hold its winter commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Bob Sneller Gymnasium on campus. Students are asked to meet in the first-floor commons area of the Arnold Farber Building at 9 a.m.
A rehearsal will be staged at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the commons area of the Farber Building.
The guest speaker at commencement will be Jorge Alvarado, a Carthage student graduating from the nursing program.
Pittsburg (Kan.) State University will put on two commencement ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 14. Graduates of the colleges of education and technology will be recognized at 5:30 p.m., and graduates of the colleges of arts and sciences and business will be recognized at 7:30 p.m.
Both ceremonies will take place in the Garfield W. Weede Physical Education Building on campus.
Students are asked to arrive an hour early. Guest seating for the second ceremony will not be available until approximately 7 p.m.
No rehearsal has been scheduled, and the ceremonies will not include a guest speaker.
Ozark Christian College in Joplin and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami do not hold a winter commencement ceremony.
