Carthage council authorizes agreement for traffic signal

CARTHAGE, Mo. — A new traffic signal installation is in the future for Route HH and Hazel Avenue in Carthage, after an agreement for the project was authorized Tuesday by the Carthage City Council.

The council gave final approval to an agreement with the Missouri Transportation Department for funding toward the project to include installing traffic signals at the crossing and widening Route HH as it approaches Highway 171. Eight percent of project costs — up to $234,420 — will come from federal funds via the state.

The council, on the recommendation of the public services committee, agreed to allow a “yarn-bombing” project prior to the July 26 art walk. The project, in conjunction with art camp sponsored by Carthage artCentral, will place yarn displays in downtown Carthage.
