JOPLIN, Mo. —
Sheriff Archie Dunn was getting praise, but challenger Randee Kaiser was getting the votes of three Joplin residents questioned Tuesday as they were leaving their polling place.
Lloyd and Sara Ditto, of Joplin, complimented work by Dunn to gain passage of the county’s Law Enforcement Sales Tax, but said they did not like the frequent fighting between the sheriff and members of the Jasper County Commission.
“But there’s been too much water under the bridge there, something has to change,” said Sara Ditto.
Darieus Adams, Western District associate commissioner ran unopposed. Had she been able to vote in the Eastern District associate commission race, Sara Ditto said she would have voted for Blane Mitchell, who is challenging long-time incumbent Jim Honey.
“They need to turn over a new leaf; they need new viewpoints,” she said.
Sara Pinjuv, Joplin, said she also voted for Kaiser. She said Dunn “had served well, but I think the county is ready for a change and I’ve heard a lot of positives about him (Kaiser).”
