JOPLIN, Mo. —
A man who robbed the United Missouri Bank on Maiden Lane remained at large Tuesday as Joplin police and the FBI worked to identify and apprehend him.
The man entered the bank at 2106 S. Maiden Lane at 3:22 p.m. Monday and handed a note to a female teller that said he had a gun and that he would shoot if necessary. A police report said the man both handed her the note and read it to her.
Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said no weapon was displayed despite the note’s claim.
The man made all the bank employees get down on the floor after he was given cash and he walked out a door on the northeast side of the bank. Niess said it is unknown if he left on foot or in a vehicle.
The robber was described as about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. He was dressed in a white T-shirt and dark pants and wore a black do-rag on his head. Bank employees reported that he had either light reddish or auburn facial hair.
Police released bank security photos of the suspect Monday night. One of the photos can be viewed on the Globe’s website.

Two plead guilty to post-tornado wire theft
