Ordinances that would adopt a pay-for-performance plan for Joplin city employees and amend the city’s employment policy manual accordingly are on the agenda for the Joplin City Council’s meeting on Monday.
However, at work sessions on the 2010 budget last week, the council froze wages and did not fund the salary table, citing economic conditions and a drop in sales tax revenue collected by the city. The council voted 5-4 to reconsider an allocation for raises 90 days after the new budget takes effect Nov. 1.
In other business, the council will:
n Hear from representatives of the Joplin Sports Authority, who will make a presentation on the economic impact of the events the group puts on in the community.
n Be asked to approve an agreement with the Federal Transit Administration that will allow the city to receive a $1,070,255 grant from federal stimulus funds to build shelters and benches for Sunshine Lamp Trolley stops.
n Decide a proposal to buy property at 130 N. Porter Ave. for $112,500 to build a trolley storage barn.
n Decide a number of proposals dealing with the design for a new interchange at Zora and Main streets and widening Maiden Lane from Ninth to 30th streets.
After its regular meeting, the council will have dinner with members of the planning and zoning commission as part of an effort to become acquainted with commission members and for the two panels to discuss their roles in deciding city issues

‘A creek runs through it’ concept posed for new JHS
The Joplin Board of Education got its first peek at preliminary architectural renderings for the new Joplin High School at a special meeting Wednesday night. Neosho council approves new golf cart contract
The purchase of golf carts was back on the agenda this week for the Neosho City Council. City Attorney Steve Hays said there were errors in the financing terms that were part of a bid approved last month for the purchase of 55 gas-powered carts from E-Z-Go for $144,195, so the purchase of a new fleet was rebid.
