NEOSHO, Mo. —
The Neosho Police Department is gradually increasing staffing after layoffs in 2010 reduced the department to about half of its previous staff, said police Chief Dave McCracken.
McCracken included the information in his 2012 year-end report, which he provided last week to the Neosho City Council.
The layoffs were made in response to the town’s budget crisis.
“We’re getting back to a full-service police department that will be able to give the service that people deserve,” McCracken said by phone on Monday.
The department still remains six officers and two clerks short of the staff it had in 2008, the report noted.
