Carthage United Way falls just shy of goal

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Carthage United Way fell just short of meeting its $300,000 campaign goal for the year, agency officials and volunteers were told Thursday.

The effort among Carthage area industries, businesses and organizations raised  nearly $299,000 — 99.5 percent of its target.

“I hate to be that close and not make it, but overall, I think everybody did really well. We’ll be able to take care of all of our agencies,” said Jenny Mansfield, United Way executive director.

The campaign total was announced, and awards handed out, at a noon banquet on Thursday held at the community room of the Carthage Water and Electric Co. building.

The chairman’s award went to Innovative Industries, the 110 percent Award to Jana Kresyman with US Bank and the Spirit of Giving Award, to the Carthage Press.

The campaign does not officially end until Feb. 28 and donations still are being accepted. They can be mailed to Carthage United Way, P.O. Box  250, Carthage, Mo. 64836, or the office can be reached by calling 358-2948.
