More research will be done before the Neosho City Council takes up potential fee increases for pet tags, said Mayor Richard Davidson.
A resolution to increase the fees was on the agenda for the council’s meeting Tuesday night. It called for increasing the annual tag fee for pets that aren’t spayed or neutered from $25 to $30, and the annual fee for spayed and neutered pets from $5 to $15. Under the proposal, the lifetime fee for pets that aren’t spayed or neutered wouldn’t change, at $100, while the lifetime fee for spayed and neutered pets would increase from $10 to $40.
Davidson said the topic generated more council discussion than anything else at the meeting. The council asked Dana Daniel, development services director, to research what other towns charge for pet tags and to resubmit the proposal at a future meeting after taking the information into consideration.
In other business, the council approved a bid from Neosho Tree Service to remove four trees from Big Spring Park, including a spruce tree that has served for decades as the town Christmas tree. The tree service will sell the logs and do the work at no cost.
City pool
THE NEOSHO COUNCIL on Tuesday approved buying a light pole and light fixture for the city pool at a cost of $3,382, and pool filters at a cost of $22,800.
