Officials break ground for new Meadows health care facility

From staff reports

JOPLIN, Mo. — Officials with LTC Consulting, the Sikeston-based group that manages several health care facilities in Joplin, broke ground Monday afternoon for a new building.

The Communities of Wildwood Ranch, to be constructed in the Wildwood Ranch development at West 32nd Street, will replace the Meadows Care Center, a 34,000-square-foot building at 1805 W. 32nd St. It was damaged in the May 2011 tornado and was later demolished; no fatalities were reported at that location.

Bill Mitchell, vice president of operations for the management company, said the $8.5 million building will be 60,000 square feet and hold 120 beds.

The company also manages the Greenbriar, a nursing home that was located at 2502 S. Moffet Ave. and was destroyed by the tornado. According to Globe records, at least 16 people at the nursing home, including one employee, died in the storm.

The Greenbriar is also scheduled to be rebuilt, Mitchell said.
