MIAMI, Okla. (AP) — A teenager from Miami who was killed when his car ran off an overpass and plunged nearly 20 feet to the interstate below has been identified.

Nathanial Thomas Wright, 17, died early Sunday morning when his car struck a bridge abutment on an Ottawa County road and ran off an overpass over the Will Rogers Turnpike, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. The accident happened shortly after midnight about three miles south of Miami.

The car fell more than 18 feet to the interstate below, forcing the patrol to shut down the highway for nearly three hours. Wright, who was thrown from the wreckage, died at the scene.

The patrol reported Wright was not wearing his seat belt.
