Winners named at piano event

Five regional pianists have been named winners of the Honors Audition, which is part of the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition.

The winners are:

n Dasol Kim, of St. Louis, taught by Pamela Roussin.

n Robyn Meahl, of Admire, Kan., taught by Jane Wheat.

n Marc Simon, of Springfield, taught by Connie Osgood.

n Dillon Worthington, of Little Rock, Ark., taught by Neil Rutman.

n Christian Yuen, of Overland Park, Kan., taught by Jack Winerock.

Abby Lingg, of Wichita, Kan., and Isaac Van Hoecke, of Shawnee, Kan., were selected as first and second alternates.

The winners were selected from a field of 18 pianists up to age 18 from Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The audition was conducted Saturday in Webster Hall Auditorium at the university.

Each winner will receive a public lesson April 21 from one of the judges of the piano competition. The other four judges will give the winners a written critique.

Each winner also will receive $500, a medal and certificates, and will be featured in the 2008 competition program book.

The judges for the honors audition were MSSU professor Cynthia Hukill; Elizabeth Kemm, a member of the screening jury for the piano competition; and Vivian Leon, director of the competition.
