The Newton County prosecutor’s office has charged a 47-year-old Joplin man with felony domestic assault in connection with an incident at 3313 S. Joplin Ave. in Joplin.
Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said officers were called at 7:30 a.m. Friday to the home of Antonio Golston and Nancy M. McBride in reference to a domestic disturbance. McBride, 37, told officers that Golston punched her in the face and choked her before she walked to a nearby convenience store and called for help.
Golston was arrested and charged with second-degree domestic assault.
In a separate case early Saturday, Brian W. Sanders, 32, 2029 S. Grand Ave., was arrested and charged in Jasper County with second-degree domestic assault.
Niess said Sanders is accused of punching his estranged wife, Irene M. Sanders, 23, 3901 S. Hearnes Blvd., Apartment B-17, during an argument at his home shortly after midnight Friday. Irene Sanders told police that he also grabbed her by her neck and dragged her into the yard.
Niess said Brian Sanders also allegedly punched a friend of his estranged wife’s, Amanda L. Lucas, 26, when she tried to intervene. He was charged with misdemeanor assault for that alleged offense. Neither woman required immediate medical attention, Niess said.
Irene Sanders also was taken into custody for an alleged violation of a protection order, Niess said.
