A 22-year-old Joplin man was charged with trafficking in stolen identities after being detained by three female employees of a bail-bond service.
The Jasper County prosecutor’s office charged Daniel Hylton, 806 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with a felony count of trafficking in stolen identities. Other people’s credit cards, driver licenses and other forms of identification allegedly were found in his possession when employees of a bail-bond service detained him shortly after midnight Monday in the 2400 block of East Manitou Street in Joplin.
Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said Hylton allegedly fought with the three bail-bond employees, who used a Taser gun on him and sat on him until officers arrived. Niess said needles and trace amounts of methamphetamine allegedly were found next to a car seat in which Hylton had been sitting before his detention.
Niess said police officers also found credit cards and driver licenses belonging to other people in Hylton’s possession.
Besides the felony count, Hylton was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor assault on the women. Court records show he has been on probation since being assessed suspended sentences in June of last year on three convictions for stealing a vehicle and tampering.
