Newton County authorities are investigating a body found near Newtonia.

A property owner brushhogging in a field around 8 p.m. Monday found a human skeleton along Raven Road about 100 yards north of Missouri Highway 86, Newton County officials confirmed today.

The body appears to be that of a male, authorities said. The body is badly decomposed. A necklace and articles of clothing also were found.

Authorities say they have not determined a cause of death. The body has been sent to a foresic pathologist in Springfield.
