A 26-year-old Joplin woman reported suffering dog bites during a fight Thursday night with her boyfriend.

Police were called at 7:24 p.m. to the 1800 block of South Murphy Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance. Cpl. Chuck Niess, of the Joplin Police Department, said a woman told officers that she and her boyfriend had argued and began hitting each other.

While they were on the ground, the boyfriend allegedly “sicked” his German shepherd on her. But the dog actually bit him before biting her on her back and shoulder, Niess said. The boyfriend had left the residence by the time officers arrived and no arrest was made.

The report remained under investigation on Friday, Niess said.
