Joplin police are investigating a report of three 18-year-old women being sexually assaulted after an underage drinking party Friday night at an apartment in a central sector of the city.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said the women from Neosho, Webb City and Carthage reported to police late Saturday morning that they had been victims of sexual assault during the early morning hours while they were sleeping or passed out from drinking.

Niess said two of the women reported that they awakened at different points during the night and realized they were being raped by a male acquaintance. The third woman reported waking up and finding a male acquaintance undressing her. Niess said she was able to stop him and left the apartment.

Niess said the women accuse the same male acquaintance of all three attacks. He said two of the alleged victims had rape kits conducted at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin.

The case remained under investigation Monday without any arrest having been made.
