Felony drug charges have been filed against two men in separate arrests made by Joplin police

A report of prowlers about 6:30 p.m. Monday at Babst Roofing on Langston Hughes-Broadway sent an officer to the 700 block of East Central Street. Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said the officer observed two men inside the fence at the business smoking what appeared to be marijuana while he waited for a backup officer to arrive.

Niess said the officers detained the two men a short time later, and found one of them in alleged possession of scales, bags and 3.6 ounces of marijuana. Franklin J. Steele, 37, who provided no permanent address, was arrested and later charged with possession with intent to distribute. The other man was released since Steele was determined to be an employee of the business, Niess said.

Roy D. Lemmons, 51, 827 S. Brownell Ave., was charged with possession of methamphetamine after a traffic stop Saturday night at 12th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Niess said a search of Lemmons reportedly turned up a bag of the illegal drug.
