A Webb City man was ordered Wednesday to stand trial on a felony charge of robbing a grocery store of two bottles of vodka.

David L. Chrisman, 52, was bound over after a preliminary hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin on a charge of second-degree robbery. Associate Judge Richard Copeland set Aug. 22 as the date for his initial appearance in a trial division of the court.

Anthony Lawson, assistant store director for the Price Cutter grocery store in Webb City, testified that Chrisman tried to steal two bottles of Grey Goose vodka from the store on May 17 by walking out with them under his coat. Lawson told the court that when he tried to stop the defendant from leaving without paying, a scuffle ensued in which Lawson suffered a bloody nose.

Lawson testified that the scuffle was caught on tape by the store’s surveillance equipment, and the tape has been made available to police and the prosecutor’s office.
