MIAMI, Okla. — Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. The board game “Miamiopoly” is coming to a store near you.
The game is a fund-raising project for the Miami Noon Lions Club’s eyeglass program and for equipment for some city parks, said club member Mike Sexton.
“We’ll spend all of the profits locally for kids who can’t afford eyeglasses or exams,” he said.
Squares around the perimeter of the game board are being sold to local merchants, banks and organizations, Sexton said. The cost is between $100 to $3,500 for advertising on the board.
The Peoria Tribe bought the rights to have its advertising on the play money, Sexton said. He said the money will advertise Buffalo Run Casino and Hotel, Peoria Gaming Center and Peoria Ridge Golf Course. The Buffalo Run Hotel, adjacent to the casino, opened last week.
The board game will be sold in a shrink-wrapped box with the Coleman Theatre and the logos of Route 66 and the Miami Wardogs, the high school’s mascot, on the top of the box, Sexton said.
Sexton said the club is hoping to sell all of the advertising by Sept. 9.
“The whole purpose is a money-raising project,” he said. “We’re hoping advertising will pay for the board game.”
The board game will sell for about $20, although a final price has not been set.
“If we can sell 500 games, we can raise about $10,000,” Sexton said.
Sales of the board game will begin in October.
“We think it will be a pretty novel deal for people, and it raises money for a good cause,” Sexton said. .
