MIAMI, Okla. — At least four families living in a Miami apartment complex are without homes after their building caught fire Sunday, authorities said.

The Miami Fire Department responded about 3:30 p.m. to a report of smoke rolling out of a second-story window at the Terrace Apartments, 306 13th Ave. N.E.

Capt. Robert Wright said firefighters found a blaze that had burned through the roof on the west side of one of the two-story buildings.

“When we arrived, we found it had got into the attic area and vented through the roof,” he said.

A preliminary report indicates that the fire started near a space heater in an unoccupied apartment. Three apartments on the top floor had fire damage, Wright said. Apartments below those had smoke and water damage.

No one was reported injured in the blaze, which firefighter spent about four hours extinguishing.
