Crowder College’s board of trustees this morning accepted a bid of more than $364,250 for a construction manager for a planned alternative-energy learning center at the college’s Neosho campus.

The bid was awarded to JE Dunn Construction, which has offices in Bentonville, Ark., for the first phase of the proposed Missouri Alternative and Renewable Energy Technology (MARET) Center. With a construction manager arrangement, the college itself would assume the role of general contractor for the MARET Center, and use the construction manager to help it hire the subcontractors.

JE Dunn was the lowest of five bids submitted. Proposed elements for the first construction phase include an incubation center for new businesses; renewable-energy laboratories or workshops; office space; and space for the school’s construction technology program.

College officials hope to be able to break ground on the project next year.
