KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Voters may have noticed that recent advertisements supporting a proposition on next Tuesday’s ballot concerning regulation of the state’s casinos don’t mention gambling or Missouri’s loss limits.

Instead, the ads emphasize what supporters say is the economic and educational benefits of Proposition A. That measure would rescind the nation’s only loss limits at casinos, cap the number of casinos in the state and raise taxes on the casinos.

Supporters say the emphasis on education and the economy is valid because changing casino regulations would increase tax revenue, with much of the money going to schools.

Opponents say the advertisments are a shell game, seeking to hide the true intent of the proposition, which they say is to raise profits at casinos at the expense of troubled gamblers.
