Empire District Electric Co. has restored power to about 1,700 customers in northwest Joplin after an insulator failed and caused electricity to go out.
The problem caused the power to blink throughout Joplin, said Empire spokesman Amy Bass.
She said a damaged insulator took down power north of Second Street and south of Fountain Road from Main Street west to the state line. Customers in that area were without power from 1 to 1:45 p.m.
Electrical power throughout the city was momentarily affected when the damaged insulator failed and again as a repair crew routed around the area of damage.
Power has been restored to all customers, but the crew was still working on the repair about 2:30 p.m., Bass said.
