An Alba man pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge of misdemeanor assault on a Jasper County deputy at the county jail in Carthage and was assessed a suspended sentence.
Frank E. Halvorsen, 27, pleaded guilty to the lowered charge in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin in a plea agreement with the county prosecutor’s office.
Circuit Judge Gayle Crane sentenced the defendant to one year in jail but suspended execution of the sentence and placed him on supervised probation for one year. The judge also ordered that he pay $119.20 in restitution to Deputy George Datum.
Halvorsen attacked Datum on March 15 while he was an inmate at the Jasper County Jail, according to court records.
