A Stotts City man was killed in a single-vehicle accident at 9:14 p.m. Thursday on Farm Road 1040, two miles north of Stotts City in Lawrence County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Charles Volkl, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Lawrence County Coroner Don Lakin, the state patrol said. Volkl’s body was taken to Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, the patrol said.
Volkl was driving a southbound pickup truck that ran off the road, struck an embankment and overturned. The truck then slid on its top, struck a bridge and entered a creek, the patrol said.
n Two Webb City residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 8:20 a.m. Friday on Missouri Highway 171, three miles east of Webb City in Jasper County, the state patrol said.
Both drivers involved, Delbert K. Standridge, 46, and John H. Furry, 83, were taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.
Furry’s eastbound vehicle was struck in the rear by Standridge’s eastbound van, the patrol said.
n A Joplin man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 5:40 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Business Highway 71, two miles south of Joplin, the state patrol said.
Jack W. Hyman, 78, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.
Hyman was driving a northbound vehicle that ran into the rear of another northbound vehicle driven by Julie A. Bryant, 36, of Joplin, as Bryant slowed to yield to an emergency vehicle, the patrol said.
n A Carthage man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 1:12 p.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 60, three miles east of Seneca in Newton County, the state patrol said.
Christopher L. Johnson, 43, was taken to McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital in Carthage, the patrol said.
Johnson was driving a westbound pickup truck that collided with an eastbound pickup truck driven by Quenston D. Cox, 28, of Wyandotte, Okla., as Cox pulled into Johnson’s path while attempting a U-turn, the patrol said.
n An Oklahoma man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 11 a.m. Friday on Hammer Road, three miles northwest of Neosho in Newton County, the state patrol said.
George Mack, 51, of Spiro, Okla., was taken to Freeman Neosho Hospital, the patrol said.
Mack was driving a southbound car that ran off the road and struck a culvert, the patrol said.
