GIRARD, Kan. — The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department said two fires that destroyed hay bales early Sunday on farms near Mulberry and Pittsburg are believed to have been intentionally set.

The first fire, on the property of C.L. Farabi at 950 S. 200th St., was reported at 12:01 a.m. Eighty large, round bales of hay were burned, at an estimated loss of $4,800. The Baker Township Fire Department responded to the fire.

A second fire was reported at 2:42 a.m. at 1048 E. 650th Ave. near Mulberry. Ten bales of hay worth about $300 were lost in that fire.

The owner was listed as Jim Hadley. The Arma Rural Fire Department responded.

Authorities said they are seeking the public’s help in solving the arson cases. Anyone with information is being asked to call (620) 724-8274. Callers may remain anonymous.
