NEOSHO, Mo. — A man was in police custody Friday afternoon after allegedly robbing a Neosho bank.
Authorities were withholding the name of the suspect pending the filing of formal charges, according to a release from the Joplin Police Department, which apprehended the individual.
Neosho police were called about 12:45 p.m. Friday to First Community Bank, formerly Goodman State Bank, 230 W. Spring St. Newton County sheriff’s deputies and state troopers also responded to the call.
Witnesses told police that a man estimated to be in his late twenties entered the bank and gave one of the employees a note demanding money. The suspect did not display a weapon during the incident, although he did make off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The two bank employees in the building at the time were not injured.
Neosho police Chief Dave McCracken was out of the office Friday and could not be reached for comment. Police were referring questions to the city of Neosho.
Bank officials declined to comment when contacted Friday afternoon.
During their investigation of the robbery, Neosho police obtained information indicating the suspect could be at a bus station in Joplin. They then communicated that information, along with a description of the suspect, to Joplin police, who apprehended the man and recovered the stolen money.
The suspect was being held early Friday night at the Joplin City Jail, and being interviewed by a Neosho detective and the FBI, according to the press release from Joplin police.
Charges
Neosho police intend to seek criminal charges against the man through the Newton County prosecutor’s office, according to the Joplin Police Department.
