NEOSHO, Mo. — A Neosho man has been bound over for trial on three counts of first-degree child molestation after waiving his preliminary hearing in the Associate Division of Newton County Circuit Court.

Shannon D. Spor, 32, was charged in October, shortly after he turned himself in to authorities and allegedly confessed. At the time, Spor was not under investigation, and authorities were not aware of the alleged crimes, Sheriff Ken Copeland previously told the Globe.

Spor allegedly had sexual contact with a 6-year-old girl three times — once in December 2006 and twice in September 2007.

After Spor recounted the alleged incidents, a detective contacted the girl and her parents. The girl alleged that Spor had touched her several times.

Copeland previously said that Spor apparently went to authorities because he “wanted to clear his conscience.”

After Monday’s hearing, an arraignment in the trial division was set for Feb. 19.
