Several area gas stations that rely on an Independence, Kan.-based oil company for fuel are scrambling to find alternatives after they reportedly did not receive deliveries on Wednesday.

At least one gas station in Joplin, and a half-dozen more from Asbury to Pittsburg are out of fuel, or have only just been resupplied, according to reports from service station managers.

“We don’t have fuel and we can’t take debit or credit cards either,” said Kay Clayton, owner of the Asbury Quick Mart on Highway 171 in Asbury.

Clayton said she was informed yesterday by a representative for Crescent Oil Company that they would no longer be supplying gas. She said she and several other stations are trying to make alternate arrangements to receive fuel.

A spokesman for Crescent Oil declined to comment Thursday.
