A Joplin woman reported being attacked and cut with a knife by an intruder who entered her home while she was asleep in her bed.

Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said the report involving an attack at 4:30 a.m. Saturday on a 42-year-old woman in the 2200 block on South Pearl Avenue remained under investigation Tuesday without any arrest having been made.

The woman told police that she was sleeping and awoke to find a man standing beside her bed with a knife in his hand. The man slashed her cheek and fled the house, Niess said. He said the woman started to pursue him and then called police.

Niess said the woman suffered lacerations to her cheeks and a finger on one of her hands. She was treated at the scene by emergency medical technicians. Niess said police found no sign of a forced entry at the home, but the woman said she was uncertain whether she had locked her doors.
