A Class B felony theft charge has been filed today against Gene Paul Boyd, who is accused of stealing at least $325,210 from the village of Leawood while serving as the treasurer for the village, according to a probable cause affidavit released today by the Newton County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.

The affidavit states:

“In October 2008, Boyd confessed to three supervisors .at the Empire District Electric Co. to taking money from the village for possibly as long as 21 years. Approximately $673,534 in village funds are unaccounted for.”

A warrant has been issued for Boyd’s arrest.
