The Jasper County prosecutor’s office has dropped three felony charges a Joplin man was facing for allegedly barging into his ex-girlfriend’s home with a gun and telling her she could not leave until they talked or one of them was going to die.

Assistant Prosecutor Theresa Kenney said charges against Scott A. Baiel, 45, 1218 S. Main St., Apartment 5, were dropped in Jasper County Circuit Court because of a lack of cooperation on the part of the alleged victim. Baiel had been charged with first-degree burglary, felonious restraint and armed criminal action.

A probable-cause affidavit filed by a Joplin police officer states that Baiel entered the home of his ex-girlfriend armed with a gun on Dec. 5. He later was caught by police near 21st Street and Virginia Avenue. At the time, he had an outstanding felony warrant in Texas for alleged probation violation, according to court records.
