JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — Republican state Sen. Jack Goodman announces his candidacy for the U.S. House seat being vacated by Roy Blunt.
Blunt, a Republican, is running for Senate in 2010 instead of seeking re-election to his southwest Missouri congressional seat.
Goodman was announcing his candidacy Friday morning in Joplin. He plans to repeat the news in his hometown of Mount Vernon, then Springfield and Branson. He plans more stops in his candidacy tour on Saturday and Monday.
The 35-year-old is an attorney who first was elected to the state House in 2002 and won a special election to the state Senate in 2005. He says he would have voted against President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus package.
