Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon announced last week that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded the city of Duquesne a $500,000 grant.

The city will use the grant to construct a wastewater collection system. The project is estimated to cost $6.7 million and is expected to be completed in May 2012.

The city will use the grant funds in conjunction with other state programs and loan funds.

The DNR sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007. Sale of the bonds allows the department to provide cities and municipalities with grant funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.
