ST. LOUIS (AP) — Missouri’s attorney general is warning about possible scammers who are playing on fears about swine flu.

Chris Koster said Monday that some Internet sites are drastically inflating prices on items like paper face masks and antiseptic wash and trying to sell them for hundreds of dollars. He said they are being offered as “pandemic flu kits.”

Koster, the state’s top prosecutor, also warned about callers saying businesses must buy swine flu test kits. He said a restaurant owner in Bolivar received such a call and that the scammer tried to get a credit card number.

Koster said people who think they have encountered a scam can call his consumer protection hot line at 800-392-8222.
