CARTHAGE, Mo. — A request by the city of Duquesne to annex 20th Street in front of a new Joplin Middle School set to open in August will wait for a recommendation from Sheriff Archie Dunn, members of the Jasper County Commission decided Thusday.
The city has advanced the request so it can post school crossing signs and enforce traffic in front of the new school, said Mayor Denny White.
“We had talked to the commission about it earlier and they didn’t have a problem,” White said.
Darieus Adams, Western District associate commissioner, said he had checked with school officials, who did not object to the plan.
