Webb City bank robbed

WEBB CITY, Mo. — A gunman wearing a hooded sweatshirt and balaclava robbed a U.S. Bank branch in Webb City today, fleeing in a gray or silver sport utility vehicle.

Don Melton, assistant chief of police, said in a news release that the bank branch at 1723 S. Madison Ave. was robbed at 9:06 a.m. A man walked into the bank, displayed a handgun and left with an undisclosed amount of money, he said.

The robber was seen getting in a sport utility vehicle, thought to be possibly a Toyota or Nissan, which left southbound on Madison Avenue. He was described as 25 to 35 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 170 pounds, with a medium build.

The FBI has been notified and is assisting in the investigation, Melton said.
