DUQUESNE, Mo. —
Polls will open at 6 a.m. Tuesday for a special election in Duquesne, as the 1st Ward council seat will be contested between incumbent Frank Herron and challenger Barbara Welch.
Polling will be held at Duquesne City Hall at 1501 S. Duquesne Road.
The candidates each received 54 votes during the municipal election on April 2. Under Missouri law, the candidates had the choice of settling the election by drawing lots or holding a special election.
The special election is expected to cost the city nearly $2,000 according to city officials. The city will pay for the cost of new ballots and election workers, though Jasper County officials will run the election.
