Plane crash victim identified

From staff reports

LAMAR, Mo. — The pilot killed in a single-engine plane crash Sunday at the Lamar Municipal Airport has been identified as Duane A. Davis, 40, of Fort Scott, Kan.

Barton County Coroner C. Tucker Joustra confirmed that Davis was the pilot and only occupant of a single-seater Piper plane that crashed Sunday morning less than a half-mile north of the airport. Joustra said Davis was a licensed pilot who recently moved to Fort Scott from Texas and was practicing to do some crop-dusting.

“My understanding was they had filled him with water to let him go out and do some passes,” Joustra said.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
