A Scammon toddler died Saturday when his mother, apparently unaware of his location, ran over him in the driveway with her car, said Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.
Damion Poe, age 11 months, died in the accident. Cherokee County Emergency Services were notified at 9:17 a.m. Saturday that the child had been run over by a car driven by his mother, Jaqueline Poe, and that the parents were driving the child to St. John’s Maude Norton Hospital in Columbus. The child was then flown by helicopter to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., where he was pronounced dead.
Groves said it appears that the mother was moving the car in the driveway of her house while mowing and didn’t realize that the boy was in the path of the car. He said the sheriff’s department is conducting an investigation, but that there was no indication of anything other than an accident.
