Nationally renowned economist to be featured at Joplin recovery seminar

JOPLIN, Mo. — Nationally known economist Peter Ricchiuti and master developer David Wallace will be the speakers at a seminar on Joplin’s economic future titled “Joplin Forward.”

The program will start at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Holiday Inn Convention Center Hotel and Spa. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will open the event at 6 p.m. It is being held by Wallace Bajjali Development Partners and the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce.

Ricchiuti teaches courses on financial markets at the Tulane University Freeman School of Business. Known for his sense of humor as well as his financial acumen, Ricchiuti has spoken at hundreds of events in 47 states and a number of countries. He has also has been interviewed on CNN, CNBC and in The New York Times, Barron’s, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.

In 1993, he founded Burkenroad Reports, which has resulted in some top-producing funds. The project involves assigning teams of students to follow a publicly traded company and produce a financial analysis of that company to give students experience in stock analysis.

In addition to Ricchiuti’s presentation, Wallace will give an update on redevelopment plans for Joplin.

Wallace is CEO and co-founder of the Wallace firm. The firm specializes in real estate development and in producing public-private partnerships. The firm has been in charge of projects ranging from redevelopment of the downtown in Amarillo, Texas, and Waco Town Square and Sugar Land Town Square, also in Texas. His firm has been selected as Joplin’s master developer in rebuilding from the 2011 tornado. Wallace-Bajjali currently manages $200 million in real estate assets.
