KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A new report from the Air Force sites Whiteman Air Force Base for lax control over access to a locked vault holding parts used in arming and releasing nuclear weapons.

Whiteman was among five U.S. air bases where errors were uncovered last summer in storing or tracking components for nuclear weapons.

An Air Force spokesman said all problems found at the bases have been fixed.

Whiteman officials found they had to make sure that once people switch to new assignments, they no longer have access to the vaults with parts used in arming and releasing nuclear weapons.

A Whiteman spokesman also says hundreds of areas at the base in Knob Noster were inspected, and the auditors found two deficiencies, both of which were corrected.
