JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri lawmakers have endorsed legislation that lowers the state’s minimum age for carrying a concealed weapon.
Missouri currently requires people be at least 23 years old, clear a background check and pass a firearms training course to get a concealed weapon permit. The legislation drops that to 21 years old. Missouri appears to have the oldest age requirement in the country.
The legislation also would cap the fee sheriffs can charge for making changes to existing concealed weapon permits.
The firearm provisions were added Tuesday by the House to broader courts legislation. It needs another vote before moving to the Senate.
