The Joplin Board of Education got its first peek at preliminary architectural renderings for the new Joplin High School at a special meeting Wednesday night. Architects from DLR Group, based in Omaha, Neb., and Corner Greer & Associates, based in Joplin, presented the plans to the board for its blessing to move forward with the design concept.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma appeals court has upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit that sought a divorce between two women who claimed they obtained a marriage license in Canada.

A three-judge panel of the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals unanimously upheld a Tulsa County judge’s ruling dismissing the petition in 2008.

The appellate court’s decision says the judge was correct to throw out the lawsuit. It says the women did not produce evidence of their marriage and that Oklahoma courts do not have jurisdiction to grant divorces between members of the same sex.

Cait O’Darling had sought the divorce. O’Darling claimed she was denied due process rights and should have been allowed to present evidence on the legality of her foreign marriage.
