RIVERTON, Kan. — Fire departments from Galena and Baxter Springs responded to a house fire Sunday night in Riverton.

Galena fire Lt. Chad Stapleton said the department responded at 10 p.m. Sunday to a call reporting a house fire on Southeast 80th Road. The single-story, frame house is owned by Anita Toney, and Russell Holman lives there. Stapleton said no one was home when the fire started.

There were no injuries, Stapleton said.

Heavy smoke and flames were present when firefighters arrived.

Stapleton said the fire started in a laundry room addition to the house. The northeast quarter of the house, including the addition, had heavy fire damage, he said.

The cause of the fire had not been determined.

The Galena Fire Department had nine firefighters and three trucks at the fire. The Baxter Springs Fire Department responded with six firefighters in two trucks. The Galena Fire Department left the scene at 12:05 a.m. Monday.
