Newton County authorities are investigating the death of a Goodman man who was struck by a train Friday night.

Authorities say the 21-year-old was walking along train tracks south of the Neosho airport and was wearing earphones at the time.

Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland said the man apparently did not hear or notice the train as it came up behind him. He was thrown several hundred feet.

The man’s name and the exact time of the accident were unavailable Saturday, although Newton County Coroner Mark Bridges said he pronounced the man dead at the scene at about 7 p.m.

Bridges said the man had been staying with someone living along Kudu Road, just southwest of Neosho and just west of the train tracks.

Copeland said authorities believe the death was accidental.

The body was received by Clark Funeral Home of Neosho.
